Kitchen Organzing Solutions - Top 4 Secrets for Organizing Kitchen Drawers Since you spend so much time in your kitchen, why not make the most efficient use of that time? I wanted to come up with an efficient kitchen organizing solution for kitchen drawers that was easy and effective. Although the contents in your kitchen drawers arent exposed and no one can see them, they still can effect how functional your kitchen runs. Sometimes it is just easier to grab an item off the counter and place it in a drawer, but by finding an organizing solution that helps declutter, it will help keep the clutter under control. Its always a good feeling of knowing exactly where items are and a bonus when you or other family members can find them easily. This method described below keeps in mind the 3Es of organizing I always focus on, which are make it EASY, EFFICIENT and EFFECTIVE. Heres how to Declutter those drawers fast! 1. One Drawer at a Time: Tackle one drawer at a time. Organizing solutions need not take a long time. Set aside a specified amount of time. Limit a maximum of 30 minutes for a large drawer or one that hold lots of items. Smaller, less full drawers put 10-15 minutes time maximum on these sized drawers. This way you stay focused, dont waste time, and you get done quicker and leave more time for other things. When kitchen drawer organizing is done in small, manageable chinks of time, then I find I am more likely to do it more often so will you. 2. Simple Kitchen Organizing Solution Questions to Ask Yourself: Ask yourself these simple questions. How often do I use this item? If regularly used doesnt come top of mind, then toss the item into the garbage or put aside to give to charity. Also, for multiples of the same thing, ask yourself how many do I use? Recently, I found I had multiple wooden spoons, four of them in fact; I really only use 2 of the 4 - why keep 4 when 2 are used? So I put them in a give away pile for charity, in my case Value Village. 3. Sort: Any kitchen organizing solution begins with uncluttering. Take everything out of the drawer. Sort items into one of 3 piles based on how regularly you use the item. Sorting by your/family usage is easier and helps weed out under utilized or infrequently used kitchen items. For each item place it in one of three piles; regularly used pile; less often used pile or, almost/never used pile. This way you are getting rid of kitchen declutter. The almost never used pile of items is the pile for charity or to throw out. The exception are those items, like a turkey baster for instance, used for annual events like holidays. Try and keep these items to a minimum or better yet store them away with the other same seasonal items. For instance, the nut cracker you pull out every December, keep it with your other items you store for this time of year. For the less often used pile look to dispose of duplicates, worn out, novelty items no longer used. Keep the regularly used items. A general rule of thumb is 25% of the stuff we currently have, we can live without. See if you are living by this rule. 4. Put Things Back: There are some great drawer organizers for your kitchen organizing solutions. I personally like the 2 tiered kind with the top used for cutlery and when its pushed back you have a second layer below for other things. For cooking utensils you can either put these in an upright holder on your counter by your stove to help declutter and expand your drawer space or, if you have the drawer space keep them in a drawer. Getting organized one drawer at a time takes only minutes. Pick a drawer, set the timer and go to it. The feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment is inspiring. This system can be used for any kind of drawer that requires decluttering. Every kitchen is different and space may be limited but by finding a kitchen organizing solution for your kitchen will help make the most out of what space you have. Again, the goal is to have a functional kitchen where everything has its place and you actually enjoy being in it!
